About Association of Radiation and Clinical Oncologists of Nigeria (ARCON)

Who we are

The Association of Radiation and Clinical Oncologists of Nigeria (ARCON) was conceived through the collective vision, dedication, and commitment of distinguished radiation and clinical oncologists devoted to advancing cancer care, training, research, and professional collaboration in Nigeria.

Today, ARCON stands as a symbol of unity, professional excellence, advocacy, and unwavering dedication to improving cancer care in Nigeria, while continuing to inspire future generations of radiation and clinical oncologists in the pursuit of excellence and service to humanity.

Our history

The foundation of the association can be traced to April 2015 at the Department of Radiation Oncology, University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, where a historic gathering of eminent scholars and practitioners was convened. Among those present were Prof. Kingsley Ketiku, Prof. Oladapo Campbell, the late Prof. Tajudeen Ajekigbe, the late Dr. Terassa Elumelu, Dr. Rassaq Oyesegun, Dr. Festus Igbinoba, Prof. Adenipekun, Prof. Tajudeen Olasinde, Dr. Abbas Abdu-salam, Dr. Atara Ntekim, Prof. Anthonia Sowunmi, Dr. Ayorinde Folasire, and Dr. Afolabi Oladeji.

At this landmark meeting in Ibadan, the name "Association of Radiation and Clinical Oncologists of Nigeria (ARCON)" was formally adopted, and the aims and objectives of the association were carefully articulated. The meeting produced the pioneer leadership, with Dr. Festus Igbinoba as pioneer President, Dr. Afolabi Oladeji as Secretary, Dr. Atara Ntekim as Public Relations Officer, and Dr. Nini Shiggaya as Treasurer.

The formal inauguration of ARCON was held on 6th October 2016 during the Clinical Oncology and Cancer Association of Nigeria (CEAFON) Annual General Meeting in Abuja, under the leadership of Prof. Francis Durosinmi-Etti. ARCON operates under a constitution, most recently reviewed and adopted at the Annual General Meeting held in Lagos in 2021.

Since its establishment, ARCON has hosted Annual General Meetings in several cities across Nigeria — including Abuja, Lagos, Enugu, Ibadan, and Port Harcourt — reflecting the association's national spread and enduring commitment to professional engagement and academic exchange.
